Runescape - Mage Arena Guide

Mage Arena Guide

Thanks go to Leroy for writing this guide

Start point:
Mage Arena
To start:
Speak to Kolodion
Quest length:
Long
Minimum requirements:
60 Magic (43 prayer BIG help)
Members only:
Yes
Items needed:
Up to 100 spells (100 death/blood and runes for attack spells), sharp weapon (any your willing to lose), 1 Antipoison potion, 3 prayer potions (if you have 43 prayer) or 25 high level food (if not), mage suit (for Magic Attack Bonus)

A-D is the best route one can take without getting into trouble with too many monsters/pkers. Being on a less populated world is best, aswell as doing it later when there are under 400 people per most servers. Only bring the sharp weapon and Antipoison potion while going.

Directions to Mage Arena

  1. In order to get to the mage arena, start in falador. Go through the north gate and head north-east. Once you go over the bridge, go north-west through the forest. When you hit the wilderness, go straight north. While walking, you will pass the Dark Knight Fortress and Bandit Camp on your east and the ruins and Forgotten Cemetary on your west.

  2. When you come upto an assending hill, stay to the west. Go north-east, following the mountain while it goes that way. Once the mount goes a different way, continue that direction. (start running)

  3. You will come across Green Dragons and the Lava Maze on your north-west/west. Once you pass them, head straight north to the end of the wilderness at the fence. Once you hit the fence, head east until you reach the gate. Once you find it, go through and head west.

  4. Once you see the lava to the north, go north-west until you see the Mage Arena. Then follow the outer wall until you find the path to the north. Follow it west to a building and go down the ladder. The new area is not in the wilderness, so you won't be attacked from this area. Success!!!

An alternative route to the Mage Arena is to use the Lever in East Ardougne. It is located in a building just north of the entrance to West Ardougne. When you pull the lever you will end up in the Deserted Keep deep in the Wilderness. You will need a sharp weapon for this route too. Once you are in the Deserted Keep, go north. Cut the web then go west. The next place you will come to is the Mage Arena

Instructions For Mage Arena

  1. Go to Mage Arena. (use A-D above to get there the safest way)

  2. When there, talk to Kolodion. He will say that you must prove worthy inorder to use the mage arena. Tell him that your not ready yet. Go to the banker and withdraw everything that you will need. Once you enter the arena, you start fighting right away, so be prepared. (If you need more runes, the 3rd person in the area sells runes for cheaper than shops) Put everything on and set your attack to def with your attack spell set.

  3. Go to Kolodion again and accept the challenge; you will be teleported to the Mage Arena. This arena won't have many people in it, but some could be. It's really high level wilderness, so be careful. Kolodion will talk a bit, then you should be able to fire at him. During this time, you should have 'protect from magic' on the whole time while drinking doses as often as needed.

  4. His first form is really easy, only 3 hit points. He will change to another form which is stronger... but still under 30 hits. He will change again after you kill him. After you kill his 3rd form, he changes into his final form which is about level 120. Once you kill him, you get teleported back to the neutral area. Talk to Kolodion again and you will gain entrance to the pool. Go and step into the pool and you will end up in another area. Go along and talk with the NPC. He will tell you to go pray at the statue of the god you follow. The god which you chose can differ the effect of the cape. They all give you +11 to Magic, but they all have an added bonus:
    • Zamorak - lowers enemy's magic and mage resistance
    • Guthix - lowers enemy's defence
    • Saradomin - depletes enemy's prayer
Continue along and 'pray' at the statue of your choice. You will find a cape of that god infront of you for you to take.

  5. Go to the NPC again and he will give you a staff according to the god of your choice. (you may also buy the other staffs for 80k) Then go back to the pool and you will go back to the area with the quest done.

  6. In order to use the god spells outside the mage arena, you must first 'train' them 100 times in the arena. Using the level 80 spell 'charge' with the cape of the god on will double the max damage the god spell can do. If you want to 'train' a spell to use outside of the arena, make sure you are willing to give up 200 blood runes as it takes 2 bloods per spell.
