Runescape - Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup Guide

Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup

(This is a Members Runescape feature)

Thanks go to soulprovider for stafting this guide

You must complete the Jungle Potion Quest to help with the Clean Up.

Starting out
Good things you can get from Jungle Patches
Bad things you can get from Jungle Patches
Spider on a Stick Recipe
Machetes
Parcel Service
NPC's that give Trade Sticks
Shield Pics and Stats
Villager Clothing

Starting out

When you get to Tai Bwo Wannai, before you can help with the clean up you must first talk to Murcaily. He is near the fenced area with trees inside, north east of the main part of the village and south east of the farming patch. Ask him if there is anything intresting to do. He will tell you info about what's going on and what to do. Go through the rest of the options with him.

When you start cleaning up, you will see a Favour Meter in the upper right of your screen. Your Favour Meter will disappear if you leave the area or log out. When you begin the clean up again it will reappear.
Favour Meter (Favour Meter)
Each time you do something good for the village you will gain favour. Some of these things are hacking Jungle Patches, killing enemies, and repairing the fence. You can cash in your favour with the villagers in exchange for Trading Sticks, the local currency. (see NPC's that give Trade Sticks)
Trading Sticks (Trading Sticks)
Each villager will give you a random amount of Trading Sticks when talked to. The more favour you have the more Trading Sticks each villager will give. If a villager does not give you Trading Sticks when you first talk to them, tell them that you have been doing work around the village. Once you cash in some of you favour with a villager you must wait a while before they will give you more Trading Sticks. You can also get Trading Sticks from killing Jogres and some other enemies. Trading Sticks can be used to buy things from Gabooty.

To start, you will need a Machete. This can be bought in the Tai Bwo Wannai General Store, north west of the village. There are also gem bladed machetes that you can buy from Gabooty or Safta Doc (see Machetes for more info). Once you have a machete, wield it. Look around the outside of the fence surrounding the village, you will see Jungle Patches. There will be (in order of cutting difficulty) light, medium, and dense patches. Click on one of the patches to start hacking it. After a few chops you will stop and take a break for a second or two. Sometimes during this break you will pull out a Thatch Spar, these can be light, med, or dense depending on which type of Jungle Patch you are cutting. Every so often you will find something other then a Thatch Spar in the patch, could be good could be bad. (see Good things you can get from Jungle Patches and Bad things you can get from Jungle Patches to find out what to do for each) Hacking Jungle Patches gives Woodcutting experience.

Good things you can get from Jungle Patches

Thatch Spars
You get Thatch Spars from hacking the Jungle Patches, use them to repair the fence or for skewers. There are 3 kinds of Thatch Spars:
  • Thatch Spar LightLight
  • Thatch Spar MedMedium
  • Thatch Spar DenseDense
Thatching Spars can be used to repair the fence around the village or to make skewers for making the Spider on a Stick Recipe. If you decide to use the spars to repair the fence, click on part of the fence to do so.

Gem Rock
Gem Rock
Every once in a while you'll get a gem rock. They contain up to three gemstones. The only problem is that other people can see them when they appear so you have to fight for them.

Gout Tuber
Gout Tuber
You can use this to grow Gout Weed in the herb patch. You need to be Farming level 29, you also need to have completed the Eadgar's Ruse Quest. (see Farming) You need a spade to pick the Gout Tuber from the Jungle Patche. Use the spade with the Gout Tuber to pick it. You also have to option to eat the Gout Tuber however I would not recommend it, considereing it's very rare.
Example of how rare it is: I got only 2 after 12 hours of being there chopping jungle bushes.

Bad things you can get from Jungle Patches

There are three versions of these creatures and each with three different weaknesses. Use their way of dying against them, shown below. Protect From Magic also helps. Each Broodoo Victim drops a Tribal Mask. You can wear the mask however the villagers will be to afraid to talk to you so you can't get Trade Sticks.

Shield
You can make the mask into a shield, level 35 Crafting required. All you need is 2 snake tans, the mask, and 8 nails. Just use a hammer with the shield, if you have black nails or higher you will be prompted to whether you want to use high quality nails. (see Crafting)

Parcel Service

Rionasta
To access the parcel service you need to talk to Rionasta. He will offer to take your items to the bank on the mainland for a small fee. Although this may be random, his fee for me was ten Trade Sticks per item. That also means that stackable items will also go for this price I'll explain:
    1000 Arrows + 1 trip = 999 Arrows + -10 Trade Sticks
It would be better to go to Shilo Village if you have done that quest.

(green blob effect)
Pale Broodoo ShieldPale Shield
reduces attack by 4
(white blob effect)
Yellow Broodoo ShieldYellow Shield
reduces strength by 4
(orange blob effect)

The number on the side of the name means how many times you can use this abillity. The shield has a will of it's own so it is random when it uses the abillities. And like Ring of Dueling and Ring of Forging when the 10 reaches zero the shield breaks beyond fixing.

The shield abillity is information brought to you by madmarix from Runescape Forums.
