Random Events happen every so often while you are playing Runescape. There are several different kinds of events. Sometimes a reward is given, sometime an enemy appears and attacks, other times the tool you are using is thrown or broken, and a few others...
With Random Events, when an enemy appears and attacks, the level of the enemy is based on your characters Combat Level. For example:
- Level 22 to 40 player = level 49 enemy
- Level 49 to 60 player = level 79 enemy
- Level 61 to 90 player = level 120 enemy
- Level 91 to 124 player = level 159 enemy
Burying Bones

- Zombie
- Action: Appears saying "Brainsssss", then attacks.
- Examine: The walking dead!
- Examples of possible drops:
- Fishing Bait (various amounts)
- 35 Chaos Runes
- 1 uncut Sapphire
- 1 uncut Emerald
- 1 uncut Ruby
- 1 uncut Diamond
- 2 to 6 Big Bones
- 1 Dragon Bone and 1 Big Bones
- 2 Dragon Bones, 10 Big Bones, 10 Bones

- Shade
- Action: Appears saying "Leave this place mortal!", then attacks.
- Examine: The angry dead!
- Examples of possible drops:
- Shade Robe (top)
- Shade Robe (bottom)

Farming

- Capt' Arnav
- Action: Appears calling your name. When you talk to him he will tell you that your farming patch is where he buried a treasure chest. Then he will ask you to help him to unlock it. If you agree to help he will give you directions to open the lock. Then the lock puzzle screen will appear, it looks kind of like a slot machine. To open the lock you must enter the right combination by use the up and down arrows to match up the pictures with the words below and then click unlock. When Capt' Arnav leaves he will hit you over the head and you will wake up in a different area. This happens no matter what you do, ignore him, tell him you have not time to help, get the combination right or wrong. Capt' Arnav can appear while farming or cutting trees you have planted.

- Broken Rake:
- The head of your rake can come off of the handle. Use the rake head it with the handle to put it back together.

Fishing

- River Troll
- Action: Appears saying "Fishies be mine, leave dem fishies!", then attacks.
- Examine: Likes fish... hates people.
- Examples of possible drops:
- raw Swordfish
- 20 Feathers

- Whirlpool:
- The fishing spot you are using turns into a whirlpool and causes the tool you are using to fly from hand, you will usually see an animation similar to the look of some spell animations. If this happens go pick up the tool and continue fishing in a different spot or wait for the Whirlpool to disappear.
 
- Big Fish:
- It appears in the water where you are fishing. It can do hitpoint damage, or throw the tool you are fishing with, or both.
- Fishing spots move:
- Every once in a while a fishing spot will move to a different area. Some times they disappear and reappear in a new area, other times they look like they are floating to a new area.

Mining

- Rock Golem
- Action: Appears saying "Rrrraaarrrrggghhhh, flee human!", then attacks. (NOTE: Can appear while mining ore, gems, or rune essence.)
- Examine: Rock with attitude.
- Examples of possible drops:
- Hammer
- 5 Earth Runes
- Dwarven Stout
- 1 Bronze Bar
- 1 Copper Ore
- 1 Coal
- 1 Mithirl Ore
- 1 Adamantite Ore
 
- Pickaxe head flies off:
- The head of you pickaxe will sometimes fly off of the handle. You will usually see an animation similar to the look of some spell animations. Pick up the head and use it with the handle to put it back together.
 
- Smoking rock:
- If you hit a rock while it is smoking, it can explode and do hitpoint damage to your character and also break your pickaxe. If your pickaxe gets damaged, take it to Nurmof (in the Dwarven Mine) to get it fixed.
 
- 17gp to fix Steel Pickaxe
- 1100gp to fix Rune Pickaxe

Teleport

- Lost & Found Office
- Sometimes when you teleport you will be taken to a small area with four Levers. Pull the lever that is different from the others to leave and continue on to where you were going. You will gain runes if you choose correctly.

Thieving

- Pillory
- Action: While you are thieving sometimes you will be teleported and put into a cage. To get out, click the lock and solve the puzzle. You will see a spinning lock in the upper left of the screen and three swinging 'keys'. Click on the key that is the same shape as the lock hole. You will have to do this three times. When you solve the puzzle, you will be teleported back to where you were.
- Examples of possible rewards:

- Watchmen
- Action: Appears saying "(your name here), you're under arrest!", then attacks.
- Examine: The strong arm of the law.
- Examples of possible drops:
- 30 to 70gp
- 22 Body Runes
- 3 Steel Bars

- Poison Cloud
- Sometimes a chest will have poison gas inside. The poison gas will take away your hitpoints if you stand near it. If a poison cloud appears while you are lockpicking chests, move away from the cloud, it will go away in a minute or two.

Woodcutting

- Tree Spirit:
- Action: Appears and attacks you.
- Examine: A very angry nymph.
- Examples of possible drops:
- Steel Axe
- 22 Nature Runes
- 1 Banana
- Adam Axe
 
- Head falls off axe:
- The head of your axe can fall off, you will usually see an animation similar to the look of some spell animations. If this happens, pick up the head and use it with the handle to put it back together.

- Broken axe:
- Sometimes while cutting trees your axe will break. If this happens, take the axe to Bob (in Lumbridge, south of the castle) to get it fixed.

- fix Mithril Axe 18gp
- fix Rune Axe 427gp

- Ent:
- The tree will change, leaves disappear to show a face on the trunk, sometimes it will wiggle and shake. If you hit the tree it will damage your axe and you will not be able to use it again until you get it fixed. Take the axe to Bob (in Lumbridge, south of the castle) to get it fixed.

Anytime Random Events

- Cap'n Hand
- Action: He will talk to you a few times. If you do not answer, he will shoot you with his crossbow.
- Examine: Swashbuckles his way across the seven seas.
- Examples of possible drops:

- Dr Jekyll
- Action: He will appear and call your name. When you talk to him he will tell you that he needs an item to make his potion.
- Examine:
- Examples of possible gifts:
- Strength Potion (2)
- Super Energy Potion (4)

- Drunken Dwarf
- Action: He will appear and call your name a few times. When you talk to him he gives gift. If you do not talk to him, he will throw rocks at you doing hitpoint damage.
- Examine: He's had a fair bit to drink...
- Gift: Beer and Kebab
The kebabs can:
- heal random amounts of hitpoints
- take 3 points away from all fighting stats (attack, strength, defence, and hitpoints) temporarily

- Evil Bob
- Action: You are captured by Evil Bob, and force into servitude! To escape you must speak to his other servants, to find out what you can do to get out!
- Examples of possible rewards:

- Evil Chicken
- Action: Appears and then attacks. The Evil Chicken hits pretty hard, keep a sharp eye on your hits if you get this one.
- Examine: A fowl beast.
- Examples of possible drops:
- 100 Feathers, Egg, Raw Chicken, and Bones

- Frog
- Action: Lots of frogs will appear around you. Talk to the one with a crown and give the Frog Prince or Frog Princess a kiss. You will be given a Frog Token. Take this token to the Varrock Clothes Shop (just west of the General Store) to trade it for a costume: Frog Mask, Prince Outfit (male characters), or a Princess Outfit (female characters).
- Examine: A frog.

Prince Tunic
Prince Leggings
- Princess Outfit (female characters)
Princess Blouse
Princess Skirt

- Genie
- Action: He will appear and call your name a few times. When you talk to him, he will give you exp in a skill or a lamp that gives exp when rubbed.
- Examine: Maybe he'll grant me a wish...
- Gift:


This gift is experience in the skill of your choice or a lamp that gives experience in the skill of your choice when rubbed. (NOTE: The lamp is not tradeable and can not be put in the bank, you have to keep it in your inventory until you use it.) The amount of experience is the skill level times 10. For example, if you take it in a skill that is level 55, you get 550 experience in that skill.

- Certers (Giles, Miles)
- Action: One of the them will appear and call your name a few times. When you talk to him he will ask you a multiple choice question. If you answer correctly you will be given a gift. If you answer wrong or do not talk to him, he will convert items in your inventory into bank notes.
- Examine:
- Giles: The brother of Niles and Miles.
- Niles: The brother of Giles and Miles.
- Miles: The brother of Niles and Giles.
- Examples of possible drops:

- Mysterious Old Man
- Action: He will appear and call your name a few times. The Mysterious old man can do a few different things when you talk to him. He can give a gift, give a Strange Box, or teleport you to a maze or mime theatre. If you do not talk to him he will teleport you to a random place. (NOTE: Do not ignore the Mysterious Old Man in hopes of being teleported to the maze or mime theatre. If he is going to teleport you to one of these places it will be done when you talk to him.)
- Examine: A very strange old man
- Examples of Mysterious Old Man events/actions:
- Gift: Possible items given...
- 20 to 320 gold
- Kebab
- Key Half
- uncut Emerald
- Maze: If you are teleported to the maze, you need to get to the center to be returned to where you were. The faster you get to the center, the better you reward will be.
- Mime Theatre: If you are teleported to the Mime Theatre, you will need to use the new Emote Animation. They are listed in the Player Controls (under the little stick figure on the bottom far right of your screen), scroll to the bottom of the list to see the new ones. You must perform the same action as the mime to be returned to where you were with a reward.
- Strange Box: If you are given a Strange Box, open it and answer the question, you will get a reward. If you wait too long or answer wrong, your inventory will be filled with Strange Boxes. You must then answer all of the questions to get the reward.

- Quiz Master
- Action: You will get a message saying that it is your lucky day and be teleported to play Odd One Out. You will be shown a screen with three spinning objects, click on the one that does not belong with the others. To win, answer four questions in a row correctly and get a prize. For a prize, you will be given a choice between coins and a Mystery Box. Choose a prize and you will be teleported back to where you were.

- 20 Nature Runes

- Rick Turpentine (Highwayman)
- Action: Appears and calls your name. When you talk to him he will tell you that he making donations to atone for past crimes and give you a gift. If you do not talk to him he will attack you.
- Examine:
- Examples of possible gifts:

- Sandwich Lady
- Action: She appears offering you a sandwich. When you talk to her she will tell you which kind to take. You will be shown a screen with different food. Choose the one that matches what she told you to take.
- Examine: The sandwich lady.
- Examples of possible gifts:

- Strange Plant
- Action: It will appear near your character as a small plant, and then grow. When it is full grown you can pick the fruit from it. If you do not pick the fruit it will attack and poison your character.
- Examine: A very strange plant.
- Item:
Strange Fruit (this restores a certain amount of energy)

- Swarm
- Action: Swarms appear and attack you. They can be tough to see sometimes and it will look like you are being attacked buy nothing at all until you hover your mouse over it. These are really hard to hit with axes, swords, etc... It is usually best to just run away, they usually do not follow very far.
- Examine: A swarm of vicious insects!

- Leo (Gravedigger)
- Action: He will appear and teleport you to a graveyard. For this event, take the coffins from the graves. If you need inventory space, you can store items in the mausoleum.

Check the coffins to see that is inside. The one shown below has Seed Dibber and Secateurs, inside so it must belong to a farmer. Then examine the gravestones. The gravestone shown below has a watering can on it so it must also belong to a farmer.
When you find the coffin that matches the gravestone use it with the grave. Once you have all of the coffins in the right graves, talk to Leo for a reward.
