Smithing

Smithing

This skill is used for smelting ore into bars and smithing bars into weapons, armor, etc... To raise your smithing level, you need to smelt ore into bars and/or smith the bars. Each kind of ore and bar gives you a different amount of experience points. Smithing can also help raise your mining skill if you mine your own ore. Smithing has two parts to it. First you smelt the ores into bars, and then you smith the bars into weapons and armor.

The ore that can be made into bars are copper, tin, iron, coal, mithril, adamantite, and runite. Combine one copper and one tin to make one bronze bar. Blurite is used on its own. Iron is used on its own. Sometimes iron is too impure and fails to make a bar, the success rate on making a bar is about 50/50. The success rate does not increase as your Smithing level goes up. In Members Runescape, wearing the Ring of Forging makes iron successful every time. The ring can be used 140 times before it is destroyed. Combine one elemental ore and four coal to make one elemental bar. Silver is used on its own. Combine one iron and two coal to make one steel bar. Steel always smelts into a bar, even though it uses iron. Gold is used on its own. Combine one mithril and four coal to make one mithril bar. Combine one adamantite and six coal to make one adamantite bar. Combine one runite and eight coal to make one runite bar. Better ores require higher smithing skill levels to smelt and smith.

Smelting

To smelt the ores into bars, find a furnace. Once there, click on the furnace. You will get a screen that looks like this:

Smelting Ore

You can click on the kind of bar that you want to make and have the ore for or you can right click on the bar and choose how many bars to make.

Smelting Ore 2

The ore will be taken out of your inventory and replaced with a bar. With iron you will get a message telling you if it was successful or not. If the iron failed, the ore will be replaced with an empty space. If your Smithing level it not high enough to smelt the ore into a bar, you will get a message telling you what level is required.

Items needed:
HammerHammer
Steel BarBar/Bars (Steel shown)

To smith the bars, you first need to get a hammer (sold at most General Stores), and then find an anvil. Once you get to the anvil, click on the bar and then the anvil. A screen will appear showing you the items you can make and the bars required.

Mithril Smithing Screen

The names of the items and bars required are color coded. When the bars required are shown in green, you have enough bars in your inventory to make that item. If it is shown in orange, you do not have enough bars to make that item. When the name of an item is white you have the required smithing level to make the item. If it is in black your Smithing level is not high enough to make the item. If you try to make an item with a required level that is above your Smithing level, you will get a message telling you what level is needed.

If you are smithing more then one of the same item, you can right click on the item in the smithing screen and choose how many of the item to make. Your character will smith the amount of items you choose without having to click on each bar and then the anvil as you usually would. If you do not have enough bars to make the amount you choose, your character will stop when you run out of bars.

Smithing 5 or 10 items at once (Mithril)
