Runescape - Rogue's Den Guide

Rogue's Den

(This is a Members Runescape area)

Traps
Map

The Rogue's Den is a giant maze with many traps. If you make it all the way to the end you may get a bonus reward. This bonus reward could be Rogue Clothing, Rogue's Kit, or one of a few other things...

The entrance is a Trapdoor located in the Inn in Burthorpe. When you enter the area you will be in a large main cavern area. Near the center of this area are 4 Wall Safes. You can crack these for a reward. 70 experience is gained for each successful attempt. You can slip and fail while cracking these Wall Safes, trigging a trap that will cause you to loose some hitpoints. Using a Stethoscope is said to help with cracking the safes.

The NPC's in the area are:
Brian O'Richard: Gives info about the area and the Mystic Jewel
Emerald Benedict: Bank
Martin Thwait: runs a Lost and Found Shop (items sold listed below)

To begin the maze, talk to Brian O'Richard. He will give you some information about the area and a Mystic Jewel.
Mystic Jewel
You can not take any items into the maze. Talk to Emerald Benedict if you need to bank any items. Then go north through the Doorway into the maze. You can leave the maze at any time by activate the Mystic Jewel.

There is a Viewing Gallery in the maze. If you enter the Viewing Gallery, you can not return to the maze until you activate the Mystic Jewel to teleport out and start from the beginning again. Before you go through the doors to this area you will be asked to confirm that you want to enter.

As you make your way through the maze it is a good idea to walk, not run. Hover your mouse over the ground and walls in front of you looking for traps. There is a list of traps to look for and what to do for each below.

Your Thieving and Agility will drop as you complete traps. If you fail or trigger a trap you will be teleported into the main cavern room. You will be given experience for the traps you successfully completed.

Making it to the end of the maze does not guarantee a bonus reward other then experience. You can still slip and trigger a trap while cracking the Wall Safe. When you reach the end you will end up in a room with Wall Safes, like in the main cavern, only here there are 2 safes on each side. Be careful while going up to the safes, if someone else triggered a trap cracking a safe recently you can get caught in the same Floor Trap. (They disappear after a few minutes.) Click on one of the Wall Safes to try to crack it.

Experience is gained when you leave the maze, either by trigging a trap or cracking a Wall Safe at the end of the maze, not for each indivitual trap you complete. Your stats will be restored to normal when you leave the maze.

Traps

Depending on which way you choose to go through, you may not use all of the traps. Certain traps lower your Thieving or Agility skill.

The traps along with what to do for each and the amount taken away from which skill, if any, are listed below:

Search Floor: -1 Thieving
These are shown as an 'x' or star shape (can be hard to see) on the ground or a square 'tile'. Right click on it and Search Floor.

Search Wall: -1 Thieving
These look like a normal wall. Hover your mouse over the wall and then right click on it and Search Wall.

Ledge: -1 Agility for each space you move
Click on the end nearest you, you will make your way across.

Pendulum: -3 Agility
Click near the Pendulum, you will leap past it.

Blade: (on the ground) -3 Agility
Click on or past the Blade, you will leap past

Contortion Bars: -5 Agility
Click on them to squeeze through.

Wall Blade -5 Agility
If you try to examine a place with a Wall Blade, it will show just as a wall. Click past this area and you will leap past when the blade comes out of the wall.

Doors -10 Thieving
These doors can shorten your route through the maze, level 80 Thieving is required. Click on the Door to Pick-lock it. NOTE: being able to open these doors is not necessary to make it to the end of the maze.

Open Grill:
These are the same as a normal door. Click on it to pass through.

Grill maze
There is a room in the maze that is full of Grills. You must go through them in a certain order to get to the end. The order is below:
  1. south
  2. east
  3. north east
  4. south east
  5. south
  6. north west
  7. west
  8. south

Rogue Guards
Pick up the Flash Powder nearby.
Flash Powder
Use it with the Rogue Guards and then run past.

Spinning Blade
Do not stand or walk nearby these

Spin Blades
This area is in the north eastern corner of the maze. The Spin Blades run counter-clockwise. Wait until one passes then run to the 'dug-out' areas where you can get out of it's way. Wait for the next to pass then run to the next 'dug-out' area. Keep doing this until you get out of their range.

Puzzle Door
Tile Door Puzzle
Tile Door Puzzle
  • This door looks like the other doors, when you click on it a puzzle will appear. Take the tile in the south eastern corner of the room.
    Correct Tile
Then click on the door. Once the puzzle appears, click on the tile in the bottom right of the screen.

Dial Door Puzzle
Dial Door Puzzle
  • When you click on the door you will see a gear puzzle. There are 9 dials pointing up, lined up with 9 arrows. After a couple of seconds, the dials will start turning. Watch which groups are turning to make it easier to solve the puzzle. Once the dials stop turning, you can click on the dials to turn them.

Each time you turn a dial the dials touching it turn too. For example, turning the upper right dial will turn the one to the left and the one below it.

The object is to get all of the dials pointing up and lined up with the arrows again. This can be tricky, if you can not get it, click Close Window. Then click on the door again, this will reset the puzzle and give you another chance.

There is a chest, surrounded by Floor Traps, on the eastern side of the maze. This chest does not lower you Thieving or Agility when opened. The chest contains 10gp.
