After you foiled a plan to destroy the Grand Tree things have been quiet in the gnome world. Brimstail has found a strange machine, though, built by Oaknock the Engineer during the Gnomes' Golden Age. What does the weird device do? Why on RuneScape was it built?

If you agree to help this bookworm gnome get this confusing device working, you will learn a little about gnome magicks, gnome history, and you will start to uncover a new threat (or is it an old one?) to gnome security - a threat that is a lot harder to see ...

Start Point:
Brimstail, in his cave on the western side of the tree gnome stronghold.

  1. Head to the Tree Gnome Stronghold. Next is to go to the cave where you will find Brimstail. (If you go by way of glider leave the Grand Tree and head south-west to the dungeon marker on the world map. If you go by walking and go through gate head west to the dungeon marker on the world map.) Enter the cave and talk to Brimstail. You will learn about the history and then be asked if you want somthing interesting and told to look around in the next cave. Check out the stuff in the next room (cave), I clicked on each thing and examine all in the room. Once you done this go talk to Brimstail and if you viewed enough it will come up you have had a look in the other room.

  2. You are to go see Hazelmere and ask him if he knows anything about Oaknock's machine. I teleported via Watchtower Teleport and ran east to Hazelmere (located on the peninisula to the east of Yanille). Once there talk to him, after a few blah blahs you will tell him you don't understand a word he says and then he casts a spell on you. You now can understand him and then will go thorugh a few cutscenes and learn more info. Once you are done you have aquired a Violet Pentagon.

  3. Head back to Brimstail. You tell him all you learned and show him the disc you was given by hazelmere. You will see a shadow destroy the machine which you need to repair now.

  4. You will find you need Maple and Oak to repair the machine, as well as a glue of some sort. You also need the tools for construction such as hammer and saw. Also a bucket, knife and pestle and mortar is needed at this point. Go outside the cave to the regular tree shaped like a cone to the southeast (near the flax area). Use your knife and you will get a bucket of tree sap. Use your mud rune with the pestle and mortar to make dust. Now use the dust with your bucket of sap to magic magic glue. Head back in with your oak log and maple log to fix the machine.

  5. Once it is fixed you will go talk to Brimstail. He will give you a red square and a yellow triangle. You will now need to match up the number with your token to unlock it. It is (sides * color = number) For example if you had a Orange Square it would be 8 pts.. You get that by (Orange=2) * (Square=4) = 8. As a tip there is an exchanger there where you can exchange the ones you have for various others. Once you unlock the outer by using one of the ones you got first you then will be given 3 new numbers to match up... The first one will take one disc, second will take 2 disc to equal the number and the third will take 3 disc to equal its number.

    What I had and it is random for each person:
    4 - this one had one slot so I used a green circle
    10 - two slots so I used violet circle and red triangle
    26 - 3 slots so yellow pentagon, orange pentagon and red circle

    • Green - 4
    • Blue - 5
    • Indigo - 6
    • Violet - 7

    • Triangle - 3
    • Square - 4
    • Pentagon - 5

  6. Once you get passed the unlocking part the machine will become operational. And the cutscene will show you what happened to some of the cute creatures, some turned into evil creatures. Talk to Brimstail and you will then have to talk to the king and kill the evil creatures.
    • One is in with Brimstail.
    • Another in room King.
    • Top of Grand Tree by Glider.
    • Northwest near the tortoises.
    • By the Spirit Tree is one.
    • Entrance to the stronghold.
    Once you got all 6 go back and talk to the king. He will give you a crystal seed.

    Quest complete!

6,000 Runecrafting Exp
250 Construction Exp

*Take the Crystal Seed back to the cave with Brimstail and use it in the Singing bowl will turn it into a Crystal Saw.
