Lamps and Lanterns

There are a few different kinds of lamps and lanterns you can make. Some are made just from glass and others have metal parts. (See Crafting - Glass, Battlestaffs, Shells & Snelms for the glass parts) Below is a list of the different kinds of lamps and lanterns, the items required to make them, and directions for doing so. Once a lamp or lantern is complete it can be lit using a tinderbox. (See Firemaking for level requirements)

Lamps and lanterns, along with candles and torches, are used to light up dark areas. Some of these places include the cave in Lumbridge Swamp, the temple north of east Ardougne and just south of the Range Guild used in the Temple of Ikov Quest.

Making Lamps and Lanterns

All lamps and lanterns require molten glass and a glass blowing pipe to make them. Some require extra parts.

Candle Lantern

Making a Candle Lantern requires:

• Molten Glass
• Glass Blowing Pipe
• Candle (lit or unlit) (unlit shown)

Use the glass blowing pipe with the molten glass. You will get a screen asking what you would like to make. Click on the Candle Lantern. Once you have made the Candle Lantern, use a candle with it. You buy candle from Candle Maker in the western part of Catherby (3gp) or from the Candle seller at the entrance to the cave in Lumbridge Swamp (100gp). There is also a candle respawn on the main floor of the Watchtower (north of yanille).

Oil Lamp

Making an Oil Lamp requires:

• Molten Glass
• Glass Blowing Pipe

Use the glass blowing pipe with the molten glass. You will get a screen asking what you would like to make. Click on the Oil Lamp.

Oil Lantern

Making an Oil Lantern requires:

• Molten Glass
• Glass Blowing Pipe
• Oil Lantern Frame (made from iron, see Smithing Table 1)

Use the glass blowing pipe with the molten glass. You will get a screen asking what you would like to make. Click on the Oil Lantern. Next use the Oil Lantern with an Oil Lantern Frame.

Bullseye Lantern

Making an Bullseye Lantern requires:

• Molten Glass
• Glass Blowing Pipe
• Bullseye Lantern (shown without lens) (made from steel, see Smithing Table 1)
• Bullseye Lantern Lens

Use the glass blowing pipe with the molten glass. You will get a screen asking what you would like to make. Click on the Bullseye Lantern. Next use the Bullseye Lantern with an Bullseye Lantern Lens.

Making Lamp Oil

Most lamps and lanterns, except the candle lanterns, require Lamp Oil before they can be lit. This is easy to do and only requires a couple of items:

• Swamp Tar
• Lamp or Lantern (other then a candle lantern) (Oil Lantern shown)

You can find swamp tar in Lumbridge Swamp or Mort Myre Swamp.

Take the supplies to the Chemist's house in the western part of Rimmington. Use the swamp tar with the Lamp Oil Still inside the house and then use the lamp or lantern with the Lamp Oil Still. The way they look changes when you add the lamp oil.

( NOTE: The color of the candle is the only difference between a Candle Lantern and a Black Candle Lantern. )
