Strategy
- Leave bank, take shortcut to Mort'ton (trapdoor behind Canifis Bar) through the cave, out into the swamp. Head south using the rope bridge, then south to the boat. The Barrows are found by taking the road to the east of Mort'ton. Follow the road north, then the entrance is right after the road turns to the east.
- The tombs are under the hills in the barrows area. To enter them, go to the top of the hills and use your shovel, you should fall into the tomb, if not move and try again. When in the tombs you Prayer will be drained, If you are playing on the high resolution you will see a large face appear in the screen, every time that happens you lose 10 Prayer Points, So if you are using Prayer...don't waste time standing around there. When you enter the tomb click on the Sarcoughogus in the center of the room, either a brother (pink ghost monster with a yellow flashing arrow over it) will appear or a text box will come up saying you found a tunnel, do you wish to enter, Do not enter the tunnel until you have killed all 5 brothers, the 6th brother will appear randomly once you are in the catacombs.

Use the Combat triangle strengths and weaknesses to make it easier.
- I usually start with Dharok, Guthans, Torag, then Verak. They all fight melee style (weak to magic attack) and are lvl 115, they can hit very hard (I've been hit for upper 20's). To fight them I use the Slayer Staff to cast Magic Dart. I use Protect from Melee Prayer, usually takes me 20-30 Prayer Points to kill each brother. Note about not using Prayer: If you go with a friend they can get between you and the brother to block for you. This does not always work so be prepared. If you are using Protect from Melee and maging them, take off as much armor as you can to reduce the armor's mage attack penalty, it will make it easier for you to hit them with your spells.
- After the melee brother I move to Kahril (lvl 98) ranger style (weak to melee attack). To fight him put on your melee armor and weapon. Use Protect from Range.
- After Kahril, I go to Ahrim (lvl 98) mage style (weak to range attack) to fight him put on you ranging equipment and use Protect from Mage. When fighting Ahrim you may be weakened.
- After killing the 5th brother, head back to the mound that had the tunnel, enter the catacombs.

When you enter there will be a ladder in the room, that is your way back out if you don't teleport out. It will be in a different room each time you enter the catacombs. Luckily, it is simple to find your way around once you figure out where you are starting from. Everytime you go through a door all your Prayer Points disappear so don't use a Prayer Pot until the brother appears. Each time you go through a door a monster will appear and attack you, eventually it will be the 6th brother. The doors you can go through are different each time you enter the catacombs. Keep going through doors until you kill the last brother then enter the chest room. When you find the chest room and try to open the door a simple logic puzzle will appear to solve. (Click here to see full size pictures of the puzzles.)

If you are attacked while doing it the puzzle will probably change. If you get it wrong all the catacomb doors will be randomized so the way you came in will be different than the way out and you will have to keep going around to find the chest door again (because that door changed too). If you get it correct the door will unlock so you can go through it, you will not have to unlock it again until after you open the chest and make your next trip.
- Once in the chest room, open the chest and search it. After you search the chest the screen will start shaking and rocks will start falling on you. Either teleport out or start running for the ladder.
Using the above methods and inventory, I can kill all 6 brothers open the chest, run out to the ladder, and do it all again usually with food left over. Doing it that way and not trying for a high kill count I can open the chest usually 3 times before banking. Each time killing the brothers and opening the chest takes around 15 to 20 minutes.
So far, in my experience, kill count doesn't matter.
The barrows items I have gotten so far:
Dharok's Plate - only killed 5 brother's and 65 kill count (6th brother wouldn't appear for me)
Verac's Brassard - 6 brothers and 13 total kills
Ahrim's Staff - 6 brothers and 29 total kills
Also for recharging Prayer the shortest distance from a teleport location to an alter is Lumbridge.

Guide for around Level 77 Combat
I am level 77 and doing this... My stats are: Magic 60, Ranged 40, Strength 66, Attack 62, Defense 58
Equipment: (e) = equiped
- Full Mystic (e)
- Mithril Arrows (e)
- Guthix Prayer Book (e)
- Fire Staff (e)
- Air Runes
- Deaths Runes
- 7 Prayer Pots (just to be safe)
- Yew Shortbow
- Full Dragonhide
- 1 Law Rune
- Spade
- 15 Lobsters or better
I want everyone to know beforehand that even if you bring what I bring your risking 100k. I spent 800k getting everything together for 4 trips MAX (that includes the mystic, runes, and pots). The barrows are expensive, but the rewards... well worth it!
- HOW DO I DO IT?
- Once I open the tomb I pray and then open the coffin. When you first enter the tomb your Prayer should be above 30, and during the fight try not to let it drop below 20.
First I usually take out Dhoark, Varac, Guthin, and Torag (in that order). Next I keep my mystic on and kill Karil. Finally I change my armor to Dragonhide (more for the range attack bonus than for the mage defence bonus, since I'm praying) and kill Ahrim. I use, on average, 1/2 to 3/4 prayer potion per melee brother, 3/2 on Karil, and 2 on Ahrim, mostly because I'm only using Mithril Arrows (would probrably be one if I was using rune).
KEEP AUTO-RETALIATE ON! It helps when your potting because you don't have to constantly right-click and attack after potting.
- LOW RANGE?
- For those of you with low range and high melee (like me), take my word for it... don't melee the brothers! By the end of the fight with the mage my attack was down to 28, and hit one in 10 tried wasting alot of prayer potions in the process.
- TUNNEL TIME!
- When entering the tunnel, don't keep potting while in the tunnels, your Prayer is going to drain to 0 reguardless... instead once you solve the puzzle and the 6th brother appears (you should know who it is)... THIS IS IMPORTAINT! REMEMBER THIS ORDER!!!... pot, pray, pot attack. That's right, pot, pray, pot, attack... because you prayer is so low, not enough is restored with the first pot. You want to get your protect prayer on quick but you need some points to do so. Once your prayer is on, pot again to get yourself back about 20 points, and carry out the rest of the fight as normal.
IF YOU DIDN'T KILL 5 OF THE 6 BROTHERS BEFORE ENTERING THE TOMB... YOU WILL BE ATTACKED BY ALL 6 BEFORE YOU CAN SEARCH THE CHEST!!! (trust me, I tried it) You are simply attacked by a different brother each time you try to search the chest. I would say this is good and kill them all here, except that it creates havoc and you are MUCH more likely to die in the tunnel.
- IMPORTAINT TO KNOW FOR EVERYONE!!!
- There is a bug which people are abusing... I found this one out first hand (thanks to michele for helping me figure it out). Sometimes when in the tomb fighting, someone will come in and teleother you. This keeps you from moving, and more importaintly potting. The most popular tomb for this is Dhoarks, because all it takes is one well timed teleother for you to get killed...
TO FIX THIS!
Turn assistance off, this makes it so the prompt won't come up when others are trying to telport you.
- DO I NEED TO DO ALL THE QUESTS?
- I have done none of the quests (except the Priest In Peril) and I do fine as long as things don't get hectic... Remember Ghasts only exist in the swamp and once you cross the bridge you can walk to regain energy because the snails aren't agressive. Then, run again through Moyta to avoid the ghosts, and walk once you get to the bridge.
However, I would strongly urge you to know the above Advanced Barrows Guide forward and backwards before nearing the mounds. (Including having the answers to the puzzles memorized.)
- THE LOOT:
- I've done it 2 times so far:
1st time - killed 5 brothers - 5k gp, 130 Chaos Runes
2nd time - killed 6 brothers - 1k gp, 1083 Minds Runes, 131 Chaos Runes
