The Fremennik Trials Quest Guide

Council workmen have at last found the time to make repairs to the footbridge that connects Kandarin with the Barbarian town of Rellekka.

Do you have what it takes to impress the barbarians who live there, and perhaps be welcomed as an honorary member of their clan?

Start point:
The Longhall in Rellekka, North-west of Sinclair Mansion
To start:
Speak to Chieftain Brundt
Quest difficulty/length:
Intermediate/Long
Minimum requirements:
  • 40 Woodcutting
  • 40 Crafting
  • 25 Fletching
  • Be able to defeat level 69 enemies
  • Be prepared to fight without any armour or weapons

     To start the quest:

Go to the Seer's Village bar. Talk to the Bartender and buy a beer (2gp). Stop at the bank, be sure that you have an axe, knife, the beer, food, and your weapon and armour with you. Head towards Rellekka, north of the Seer's Village. On your way there (near the first bridge), you will see a Council workman, talk to him. Use the Beer that you bought from the Bartender with him. He will give you a Strange object.

Continue on your way to Rellekka. Once there, go into the long skinny building north of the entrance. Talk to Brundt the Chieftain. Ask if he has any quests, then tell him that you are interested. Next tell him that you want to be a Fremennik.

Now you must gain the support of 7 of the 12 council members by completing their trials. It does not matter what order you do the trials in.

     Swensen the Navigator

He will ask to prove your sense of direction to him by making your way from one side of his maze to the other.

Go through the portals in this order:

  1. South
  2. West
  3. East
  4. North
  5. South
  6. East
  7. North

It spells his name.

Once you get to the end of the maze go up the ladder. You will have his vote.

     Sigli the Huntsman

He will ask you to prove your hunting skills. For this you will have to track and defeat the Draugen. He will give you a special talisman, it allows you to track the Draugen while it is invisible, when you defeat the Draugen the Talisman will absorb it's essence.

Click on the Hunters' talisman to locate the Draugen. You will get a message telling you which way to go. The Draugen can change location, it will probably move around a good bit before you find it. Just keep using the talisman, it will lead you in the right direction.

Once you find the Draugen (level 69) the message from the Hunters's Talisman will say "The Draugen is here! Beware!", you should see a ghostly shape. Click on it to attack it. Once you defeat him, your talisman will absorb his essance. Head back and talk to Sigli the Huntsman, he will give you his vote.

     Olaf the Bard

He will ask you prove you have a little musical ability. For this you will have to make an instrument, get it blessed, and then play on the stage of the Longhall.

  1. Leave the town. Just south of the southern entrance the road will branch, follow the path leading east. After walking for a bit you will see a Swaying Tree north of the road with lots of bunnies and Doogle Leaves around it, cut the tree. You will get a Branch.

  2. Use the knife with the branch to make an Unstrung lyre.

  3. Keep following the path east. You will see Lalli south of the road, talk to her. Say "Other human?". She will tell you that she gave some golden wool to Askeladden.

  4. Head north west, back to Rellekka. Look around for Askeladden, he is usually just south of the Longhall. Talk to him, he will give you a Pet rock. (NOTE: If you drop the rock and talk to him again, he will give you another Pet rock for you to keep. Remember to pick up the first one. It's pretty funny to go through the options with it.) Go south east of Askeladden to the south eastern most building in the area. Go through the building into the garden. Pick an onion, cabbage and potato.

  5. Go back and talk to Lalli again. She will not want the rock. Next you will need the Pet Rock, onion, cabbage, potato. Use these with her stew. After you add each item she will ask if the stew is ready yet. Once it is ready she will taste it and tell you to let her think about trading you something for your 'special rock'. Talk to Lalli again, she will give you the Golden Fleece.

  6. Head to the Seer's Village. Go into the small building just north of the church, go up to the second floor. Use the Golden fleece with the spinning wheel to make Golden wool. Use the Golden wool with the Unstrung lyre to string it.

  7. Go east, to the bank. Deposit all of your weapons and armour. Be sure to withdraw 5250gp, a tinderbox, a raw shark, food, and any potions you will want for the next fight (read ahead to Thorvald the Warrior's Trial).

  8. When you are ready, head east. You will see a Poison Salesman east of the bank. Talk to him about the Fremennik Trials and buy the low alcohol keg from him (250gp), you will need this later. (NOTE: You may need to talk to him twice to buy the Low alcohol keg.)

  9. Head back towards Rellekka. Once you cross the last bridge before getting to the town, the road will branch. Follow the western path. This path will branch to the north, stay on the western path. South of the road you will see a small bit of land sticking out into the water, go to the end of this bit of land. Use the raw fish with the Strange Alter. Fossegrimen will appear and thank you, then she will bless your Lyre.

  10. Head to Rellekka. Go into the Longhall through the door near the north eastern corner. Then go onto the stage. Click on the Enchanted lyre to play it. Olaf will give you his vote.

     Manni the Reveller

He will challenge you to a drinking contest.

  1. Take a Keg of beer from the table and talk to Manni to challenge him. You will loose this round.

  2. Go to the east side of the Longhall. You will see a Pipe. Use the Strange Object (gotten in the very beginning of the quest) with it with the tinderbox to light it. Use the Lit strange object with the Pipe. (NOTE: If you wait too long before using the Lit strange object with the Pipe it will explode in your inventory taking away a few hitpoints.) Once it is in the Pipe, run into the bar and take a Keg of beer. Use the Low alcohol keg, that you bought earlier, with the Keg of beer. The bomb will explode and you will switch the beers.

  3. Talk to Manni to challenge him again. This time you will win the drinking contest, he will give you his vote.

     Sigmund The Merchant

He will ask prove your merchanting skills by bringing him a rare flower.

  1. Head north to the wide dock and talk to the Sailor, ask him about the merchants' trial. He will ask you for a romantic ballad.

  2. Head east and talk to Olaf the Bard, ask him about the Merchants' trial. He will ask you for a pair of sturdy boots.

  3. Go to the Clothing Shop on the west side of the market. Talk to Yrsa, ask her about the Merchants' trial. She will ask you to talk to the Brundt the Chieftain about reducing the sales tax.

  4. Go to the Longhall. Talk to Brundt the Chieftain, ask about the Merchants' trial. He will ask you to talk to Sigli about the hunting grounds.

  5. Leave the building, go south. Look around for Sigli the Hunter. Talk to him, ask about the Merchants' trial. He will ask you for a new bowstring.

  6. Go north to the Helmet Shop. Talk to Skulgrimen, ask about the Merchants's trial. He will ask you for a fish.

  7. Go west to the thin dock. Talk to the Fisherman, ask about the Merchants's trial. He will ask you for a fishing map.

  8. Go south to the building south of the market with a ladder leading down inside. Talk to Swensen the Navigator, ask him about the Merchants' trial. He will ask you for a weather forcast.

  9. Go north west to the next set of buildings. Talk to Peer the Seer, ask him about the Merchants' trial. He will ask you for a bodyguard.

  10. Go north east back to the Helmet Shop. Talk to Thorvald the Warrior, ask about the Merchants' trial. He will ask for a seat at the Champions Table.

  11. Go south to the Longhall. Talk to Manni the Reveller, ask him about the Merchants's trial. He will ask for a cocktail.

  12. Talk to Thora the Barkeep, ask her about the Merchants' trial. She will ask you to get a contract signed.

  13. Go outside and talk to Askeladden, ask him about the Merchants' trial. He will ask you for 5000gp, give it to him.

  14. Now you are ready to trade everyone for the things they wanted. You need to talk to them in this order:
    1. Thora the Barkeep
    2. Manni the Reveller
    3. Thorvald the Warrior
    4. Peer the Seer
    5. Swensen the Navigator
    6. Fisherman
    7. Skulgrimen
    8. Sigli the Hunter
    9. Brundt the Chieftain
    10. Yrsa
    11. Olaf the Bard
    12. Sailor
    13. Sigmund The Merchant

  15. After you give the flower to Sigmund The Merchant, he will give you his vote.

     Thorvald the Warrior

Thorvald will ask you to prove your combat skills and bravery. You must defeat the Koschei the Deathless three times, the fourth fight is to the death.

For this trial you can not use any weapons or armour, runes are also not allowed. Prayer and potions can be used during the fights. The battles get harder each time. On the fourth battle you prayer will be drained to 0, but you can use potions to restore it.

There are two different ways to complete this trial:

  • The first way is to let your character loose on the fourth battle.
  • The second way is to defeat Koschei all four times.

You will gain Thorvald's vote either way you choose. But if you defeat Koschei on the fourth battle, you will also get his sword, the Freminnik Blade. The fourth battle is a very tough one, Koschei is hitting your character 3 to 4 times for each time you hit him.

Talk to Thorvald again, ask him who you opponent is.

When you are ready, go down the ladder. Walk around until Koschei the Deathless appears, then the fight will begin. The last battle will end differently depending on how you choose to fight it, by dying or defeating Koschei. Thorvald will give you his vote.

     Peer the Seer

He will ask you to prove your intelligence. You can not take any items into the house with you, he can deposit them into the bank for you.

  1. Try to open the west door. You will be asked a riddle. There are several different riddles that can be asked. Some of the answers are wind, fire, mind, mage, tree, life, or time. Once you answer right, go through the door and then up the ladder.

  2. Now you will need to Study the Bull and Unicorn heads and search the boxes, bookcases, crates, cupboard in the room until you find a few certain items:
    • red disk
    • wooden disk
    • red herring
    • bucket
    • jug

  3. Once you have all of the items, use the Red herring with the range. You will get Sticky red goop and a Herring. Use the Sticky red goop with the Wooden disk. You will end up with 2 Red disks.

  4. Go down the eastern ladder and use the Red disks on the Abstract mural on the west wall. You will get a Vase lid. Go back up the ladder.

  5. Go to the west side of the room. You should see a Tap on the western wall.
    1. Use the empty jug with the Tap.
    2. Use the full jug with the bucket.
    3. Search the Cupborad again to get another bucket.
    4. Use the empty jug with the Tap.
    5. Use the full jug with the 3/5ths full bucket to get a full bucket.
    6. Use the 1/3rds full jug with the empty bucket to get a 1/5ths full bucket.
    7. Use the empty jug with the Tap.
    8. Use the full jug with the 1/5ths full bucket to get a 4/5ths full bucket.
    9. Use the 4/5ths full bucket with the chest on the northern wall.
    You will get a Vase. Click on it to shake it.

  6. Use the Vase with the Tap. Next use the Vase lid with the Vase of water. Use the Sealed vase with the Frozen table. The Vase will break giving you a Frozen key. Use the Frozen key with the range. The ice will melt giving you the Seers' key.

  7. Go down the eastern ladder, then leave through the door. Peer the Seer will give you his vote.

     To finish:
Once you have all 7 votes, go to the Longhall. Talk to Brundt the Chieftain. You will be rewarded.


Reward:
3 Quest Points
2812.4 exp in each of the following skills:
    Agility
    Attack
    Crafting
    Defence
    Fishing
    Fletching
    Hitpoints
    Strength
    Thieving
    Woodcutting

Bonus:
Once you finish the quest, talk to Olaf the Bard again. He will tell you that if you make another offering to Fossegrimen you will learn a secret melody. The melody will take you back to Rellekka when played. (NOTE: When you go to make the second offering, make sure that you have your Lyre with you.) Each time you make an offering of raw Shark it is good for 2 teleports. Offering raw Sea Turtle and raw Manta Ray will give 3 or 4 teleports before it needs to be recharged before it can be used again.
