Ranged Info
Ranged is your skill for distance attacks. To raise your Ranged level, you need to use a ranged weapon during combat. Each time you cause damage to an enemy using a ranged weapon, you gain experience points in Ranged and Hitpoints. The higher your Ranged level is, the farther you can shoot, the more damage your attacks do, and in Members Runescape the better the weapon you can use.
There are a few different types ranged weapons. They are the short bow, longbow (both of these use arrows), the crossbow (this uses bolts). In Members Runescape there are also darts, knives, thrownaxes, and javelins. Each type of weapon has good points and bad points. A longbow will fire farther, while a shortbow will fire faster. It is best to try different types to see which works best in each situation.
First you must buy or find the weapon and ammo. (If you are using throwing weapons, the weapon is the ammo.) You can buy these at the archery shop in Varrock, or sometimes a general store, and some enemies drop them after an attack. In Members Runescape you can buy ranged weapons and ammo at the Range Guild and most items can also be made by players (see Fletching). It is always a good idea to carry a lot of ammo; you can usually retrieve some but not all of it after the attack. To use a ranged weapon, you must wield the weapon and the ammo or the thrown weapon in the inventory, then click on the enemy. The ammo or thrown weapon will automatically be used.
There are different attack styles to choose from when using ranged weapons. They are:
- Accurate
- allows you to damage your enemy more often
- Rapid
- allows you to fire more often
- Longrange
- allows you to shoot farther
Different enemies use different kinds of attacks to defend themselves from a range weapon. The kinds of attacks the enemies will use are:
- Melee
- If you attack an enemy that uses a melee attack, the enemy will charge towards you and attack. An advantage to attacking a melee enemy with a ranged weapon is that you can sometimes attack through gates or from behind an obstacle like a rock or chair. This way the enemy can not get close enough to attack you.
- Distance
- If you attack an enemy that uses a distance attack, like magic or ranged, the enemy will attack from where they are.
Some armours, such as leather and dragonhide, will help you while you use a ranged weapon. These armours add a bonus that can help you to hit harder and do more damage per hit. (see Ranged Armour)
Check out Ranged Weapons to see the stats for each weapon.
