Talking to a Slayer Master
The first time you talk to a Slayer Master, you will be given an Enchanted Gem. This allows you to contact the Slayer Master and check on your progress. If you loose it, you can buy another one from a Slayer Master.
You will also be given an assignment, a certain amount of a certain enemy to kill. The enemies can range from Goblins to King Black Dragons.
A Slayer Master may recommend another Slayer Master that may be better for you level, you can take this advise and talk to the other Slayer Master or continue with the Slayer Master you are already using.
When you are given an assignment it is a good idea to ask the Slayer Master if they have any tips for you. They will tell you if any special equipment is required and sometimes let you know where the enemy can be found.
If you think the assignment is too tough or you just don't want to kill that enemy, you can visit the Slayer Master in Burthorpe. He will give you a new assignment. You must complete the assignment he gives you. Once finished you can visit the Slayer Master of your choice again.

Using the Enchanted Gem
When you activate the gem the Slayer Master will talk to you and you will be given a few questions that you can ask, such as asking how you are doing so far to find out how many more enemies to go and if they have any tips for you.
The Slayer Master that will talk to you is the one best suited to train you. You can also ask who and where they are.

To begin your assignment, gather the items (weapon, armour, food, etc...) you will need to defeat the enemy that you have been assigned. Next, figure out where the enemy is. Then start killing away. You gain experience in the Slayer skill each time you kill the enemy that you have been assigned. You will also gain experience in your combat skills. When working on your Slayer skill, you must be on a Members Server. Enemies killed on a Free Server will not count for your assignment or give you Slayer experience.
Once you've completed an assignment, you will get a message telling you to return to a Slayer Master to get a new assignment.

Slaying Tips
- Slayer experience is based on the hitpoints of the creature you kill
- When fighting some of the slayer creatures (Jellys, Bloodvelds) wearing Dragon Leather armor seems to be better protection. The creatures are fighting melee style but the higher magic defense of the ranger armor will protect you more. Example of armor with high defense - Black Dragonhide Body, Chaps, Vambraces, Archer Helm, Mage Boots, Elemental Shield.
- Slayer monsters seem to have better drops than normal monsters of the same level. I seem to get better drops from normal monsters while doing slayer tasks.
- Not sure if its coincidence... but I seem to take more damage when the Enchanted Gem is in my inventory...
- If you don't want to carry the Enchanted Gem but still want to keep track of your progress, watch your slayer experience. When you kill the first one figure out how much exp it was worth then use a calculator to figure out what your exp should be when you are done with the task. (This method is not 100% accurate, sometimes you actually have to kill a few more or less.) This also doesn't work well in multi-combat areas or with creature that have different levels (like Turoths).
- Cannons can not be set up in the Slayer Tower or dungeons.
- When going through the Aberrant Specter Room, you must wear a Nose Peg. They will hit you for 13 even with prayer on and your combat stats will drop by about 40 points per hit.
