Runescape - Contact Quest Guide

Contact Quest Guide

Thanks go to michelelee for writing this quest guide

The High Priest of Icthlarin has problems again - this time with the inhabitants of Menaphos. Sophanem is recovering from the plague, yet most of its citizens are still trapped on the other side of the river. Diplomacy has failed and subterfuge beckons. Clearly, this is the sort of job that a shifty adventurer could excel in.

Start Point:
Sophanem
To start:
Speak to the High Priest of Icthlarin
Quest length:
Medium
Members only:
Yes
Minimum requirements:
  • Quests:
    • Prince Ali Rescue
    • Gertrude's Cat
    • Icthlarin's Little Helper
  • A high combat level is recommended
Items Needed/Recommended:
Armor
Weapon
Food
Light source (Bullseye Lantern best but still will go out)
Tinderbox
Anti-poisons
Prayer Pots
Ring of Life
Glory
Super Set
Teleport Runes (your choice incase you need to get out or if no glory)

  1. Head to Sophanem and talk to the High Priest in the alter south of the bridge in the town.
    ( Done)

  2. You'll learn they wish to have the quarantine lifted. You will see a cutscene and then ask about if there was a way to enter from below. After learning some info, go talk to Jex.
    ( Done)

  3. Once you are done talking to Jex head down the tunnel if you are already set with the light source, tinderbox and food. (I also went with anti-poisons, and armor and things I was ok with losing if I died as well as weapon. I also had on Ring of Life and a teleport to Camelot. Take a Glory since once through maze you will need to go to Al Kharid.) Once down you can see the old bank (not usable yet), next to ladder is the next trapdoor to go down.
    ( Done)

  4. I did a map up with the route in green I took and the red marks traps, I may have missed one or two when I did the routing so move along with care. The yellow dots is the scarab mages lvl 93, fights with magic that can hit 14s continuously. I used protect from mage and fought them and if they happened to respawn before you move on I just moved on not fighting them again. I am pretty sure you can just move on by and not worry about fighting them if you rather not.

    Maze Route

Green is route, red traps, yellow is mages I encountered and the blue is scarab plaques.
    • For the floor traps - search the floor, attempt to disarm
    • For the moving wall - you'll move next to the moving part then run diagonal then move next to the moving part and then run diagonal to next safe spot and so on pictured added for easier understanding:

      Wall Pushers

    • For the odd markings on wall - just search the wall, attempt to disarm
ALSO: Do not stand in front of the gold scarab plaques on the walls, this will drop you in to the dungeon like area below where your light source will go out as well as a Bullseye Lantern. When it does don't panic just use your tinderbox with you light source. I put on Mage protect as well since the mages are down there as well along with many other creatures. Then move to your ladder you want up or up one closest to you. Map I added corresponds to the one I posted above by matching numbers for if you go up that ladder then that number on the top floor is where you will climb up to.

    Scarab Dungeon

When you are going along the home stretch west to the ladder watch out for gold scarab plaques there so to not get dropped down in the dungeons so close to the ladder. (I ran to the north of the section then clicked on the ladder and ran right to it without dropping.) Go down the ladder.
    ( Done)

  5. Once down, follow the path until you come to Kaleef's Body. Search it. Read the parchment you find. Go west and on the otherside of the crevice is Maisa. Talk to her. You will go through some info then be asked about Prince Ali... you will answer Draynor for where he was kept and Leela for who helped you. She will then believe you so now you need to teleport back to Al Kharid if you brought a Glory or make your way back there in the means you can.
    ( Done)

  6. Once in Al Kharid this is your chance to restock if needed on any prayer pots, food and/or anti-poisons. Go talk to Osman about Sophanem, who hangs out just south of the well, usually walking back and forth. Talk to him until he asked why he would want to help, answer that it would put a huge wedge between the cities. Head back to Sophanem. And outside the gates talk to Osman again.
    ( Done)

  7. He will say he couldn't find a way in so you tell him you know a secret entrance. You will go to a cutscene and see Osman heading to the trapdoor. Once it gets back to you head through the gates and go back down to Miasa, and you will need to go through the route again as before. (I experimented and took a shortcut, I went down the ladder at #5 on the map and when in the dungeon part ran to #8 and climbed up then went east then north and made my way west to ladder.)
    ( Done)

  8. Once you go down the ladder you will see a cutscene with Miasa and Osman. Head through the path. Get prepared, so drink your super set if you brought some and prayer pot if needed and be sure to have armor, weapon and some food. Turn on protect from mage before you enter the big area since the Big Scarab which is lv 191 will use mage first and then melee when you get close to it to hit it, there will be 2 Locust riders lvl 68 ignore them and when the scarab is almost dead a Scarab Mage appears lvl 93, be sure to keep eating and concentrate on the scarab once it dies the 3 others fade away as well. Then Osman appears and a Dagger is on the ground, pick it up then talk to Osman.
    ( Done)

  9. Go back to High Priest and recieve a lamp and Quest Completed.

Reward:
1 QP
Keris (dagger)
7,000 Thieving Xp
2 wishes granting 7,000 xp to any combat level
