Runescape - Digsite Quest Guide

Digsite Quest Guide

Thanks go to michelelee for writing this quest guide

Feeling uneducated? Desperate for buried treasure?

..."There's gold in them there hills" (well stream actually) as well as many other items that can be found at the digsite.

Join the students in their attempt to be a qualified archaeologist, and become experienced in making the earth move! Have you got what it takes to unearth the hidden altar to one of Runescape's lesser-known Gods...?

Start point:
Archaeological digsite, signposted east of Varrock
To start:
Speak to an Examiner (Archeological Expert and Examiners)
Quest difficulty/length:
Intermediate/Long
(Easy but it will take a little running around time.)
Minimum requirements:
  • Level 25 Thieving
  • Level 10 Agility
  • Level 10 Herblore
Members only:
Yes
Items needed:
Tinder Box
Cup of Tea (you can steal this from the Tea Stall just SE of the East Bank in Varrock)
Boots
Gloves
Pestle & Mortar
Vial
Cut Opal (unless you pan for it take a Chisel then)
2 Ropes (one for each winch)

  1. Okay you will need to have on you the needed items listed above for a little faster time of it.
    ( Done)

  2. To start the quest you will need to head south east from varrock, south past the mining area and then go through the gate to your east. Follow the road until you get to a fork and take the east one to the building. Talk to the Arch. Expert and the Examiner to get rolling. Then the examiner, when you ask her to take the exam will get you papers that you must take the Curator in Varrock (located in the Varrock Museum just north of the east bank). Use the paper with the Curator for him to stamp it. Go back down to the Digsite to talk to the Examiner again. You will then find yourself taking a exam and no matter what you answer it will be wrong and she will mention you need to study.
    ( Done)

  3. What you are to do now is head out from the building and go back to where the road goes north and following it till you get to the two wooden platforms. Take the one to the east and stop off near the big blue urn and search the right bush out of the two there and you will find a rock sample (Rock Sample 3). Now go on down and go in the tent and take the Panning Tray. You will then head over to the water and find that you can't pan until you are invited. Ask how to be and the guy will tell you he would let you if you got him a cup of tea. Use tea with the man and then you will be able to pan. Use panning tray with the panning spot until you find the other rock sample (Rock Sample 2). You can also find gems as well, and if you did not bring any opals then you will need to pan until you get some and cut them with your chisel. You can find money and gold nuggets as well as plain old mud. Once you have the rock sample and the cut opal your ready to move on.
    ( Done)

  4. Next stop is to pickpocket/steal from the Digsite Workmen for the next rock sample (Rock Sample 1). If you don't have rope you can also steal these form them as well. When you have all three rock samples you now go talk to the students and give them their rock sample for answer to a question on the exam.

    • Green shirt student: rock sample 1; "the study of earth sciences is the study of the earth, its contents and history"
    • Orange shirt student: rock sample 2; "the eligible people to use the digsite are all that have passed the appropriate earth sciences exam"
    • Purple shirt student: rock sample 3; "the proper health and safety points are gloves and boots to be worn at all times, proper tools must be used"
    ( Done)

  5. Go take the exam and when you pass you will get the first certificate and a trowel. Now before taking the second part go talk to the students again:

    • Green shirt student: "always handle with care, strike the rock cleanly on its cleaving point"
    • Orange shirt student: "samples taken in rough form, kept only in sealed containers"
    • Purple shirt student: "finds must be carefully handled, and gloves worn"
    ( Done)

  6. Go take the second exam and when you finish you will get the second certificate. Now go talk to the students a third time for the answers to the final part.

    • Green shirt student: "samples cleaned and carried only in specimen jars"
    • Orange shirt student: "handle bones carefully, and keep away from other samples"
    • Purple shirt student: will want a cut opal; "brush carefully and slowly using short strokes"
    ( Done)

  7. Go and take the final part of the exam and once you get the 3rd certificate go back to Varrock and show them to the Curator for a reward of a food or drink item. Then head back to the dig site and head north east till you get to the corner with a buried skeleton, level 3. There are sacks near, look in them you til find a specimen jar. Go in the area around the skeleton and use your trowel on the soil till you find a Zaros Talisman, when you do then go show it to the Arch. Expert. He then will give you permission to use his Mine shaft winches. Search the book shelves in the examiners room you will find a book "Book of Experimental Chemistry".
    ( Done)

  8. Now head to the area with a winch located below where you just got the talisman and use the paper on the workman there. Use rope on winch so you can reach the bottom. Go down and grab a Arcenia Root (which looks like a limpwart root) and go back up. After finding each ingredient go and show it to the Arch. Expert. Head to the specimen tray just north of the tent you got the panning tray and search it and find the charcoal, you will use it in your pestle and mortar, go see the expert.
    ( Done)

  9. Now west of the tent is three barrels. Use your trowel on them till one opens and then use vial on open barrel to get liquid (nitroglycerin). Don't drop this item or you can damage yourself. Go see the expert. Go back down the wench you had went down earlier and talk to the workman there and beg for the key. After you begging long enough he will give it to you so you stop. Every top answer is what you pick to beg him. Once you have the key head back to the tent where you got the panning tray and use it on the chest located in the tent. You find another ingredient (ammonium nitrate), go take it to the expert. Now head to the north west winch and use your other rope on it. Go down it and then mix your ingredients:

    1. Use ammonium nitrate with the nitroglycerin
    2. Use the ground charcoal on the vial mix
    3. Use the Arcenia Root on the vial and now you have your chemical compound.
    ( Done)

  10. Go and use the compound on the bricks blocking the path from you going any further south, and then light the bricks with your tinderbox, you will run and it will explode and then you here bones moving, go in the room and go grab the stone tablet. Take the tablet to the Arch. Expert to complete the quest and get rewarded.

Reward:
2 Quest Point
2000 Herblore Exp
15300 Mining Exp
2 Gold Bars
