You may have to kill quite a few enemies before one drops a scroll. Once a scroll is dropped, pick it up and read it. There are four different kinds of clues you can get: (NOTE: Click on the kinds of clues below to see guides for each kind of clue. Be warned, these pages show the answers too.)

Anagrams
(Click here to see clues and answers)
You must rearrange the letters to form the name of an NPC (Non-Player Character). Once you know who it is, go and talk to them. Some of them may give you a Challenge scroll to solve.
General Clues
(Click here to see clues and answers)
These clues tell you to search/look somewhere or talk to someone.
Treasure Maps
(Click here to see map pics and answers)
These clues show you a map. Go to the place it shows and dig with a spade.
Coordinates
(Click here to see clues, answers and pics of where to dig)
These clues lead you to a certain place on the World Map. Once in the right spot, dig with a spade.
Puzzle Boxes
(Click here for tips on solving and pictures of solved puzzle boxes)
These puzzles are given to you by a some NPC's as part of a clue.

To solve your first coordinates clue you will need to do the steps below to be able to figure out where to go. You need a sextant, watch and chart...

SextantChartWatch

Here is a description of how to get these three items:

  1. First, talk to Observatory Professor (south west of the Khazard side of the Battle Field).
  2. Ask him for help with the treasure trail. He will say: "That clue has a location that you need to go to. You will need to learn how to work out your current location so that you can find your way to the right place."
  3. Ask: How do I work out where I am? He will say: "Navigators use a sextant, watch and chart. Once you have the sextant and a watch I will give you the chart and show you how to use them."
  4. Ask: Where do I find a sextant? He will say: "Mariners are always good navigators so perhaps a Mariner would have one."
  5. Ask: Who would have a watch? He will say: "The nearest Clock Tower is south of Ardougne, someone there might have one."
  6. Go to the docks of Port Khazard (west of the Fight Arena, where the Fishing trawler is), talk to Murphy. He will give you a sextant. Next go to the Clock Tower (south west of the Ardougne Zoo), talk to Brother Kojo. He will give you a watch.
  7. Once you have a sextant and a watch go and talk to the Observatory Professor again. He will say: "You use the sextant to measure the angle that the sun is currently at. You need the watch so that you know what the time is back here at the observatory." and then "You then need this chart to work out your position. Your position is recorded in terms of latitude and longitude. Latitude is your position above the equator and longitude is your position relative to here." He will give you a chart. Then he will say: "So if you have your sextant, watch and chart with you then you can work out exactly where you are!"

Once you have these three items you do not need to do these steps again.

A treasure trail will usually lead you to a variety of different towns and areas. You may need some items along the way. Here is a list of recommended item to take with you when following a treasure trail:

  • Weapon and Armour
  • Antipoison Potion
  • Food
  • Rope
  • Spade
  • Sextant
  • Chart
  • Watch
  • Gold (usually about 500 just in case, for boat trips etc...)
  • Runes to teleport (not required, but a time saver)

Once you do what the scroll tells you to do you will get another Clue Scroll or get the reward. Some NPC's will give you a Challenge Scroll. These must be solved before they give you the next clue or the reward.

You can only follow 1 treasure trail at a time. Enemies will not drop another Clue Scroll until you complete the trail you are on or drop the scroll. The scrolls can be put in the bank, but they can not be traded.
